About the Shop Laborer / Cleaner Role
The Shop Laborer / Cleaner is responsible for keeping shop and surrounding areas clean, organized, and safe. The position also provides support to production employees by delivering tools, materials, and supplies throughout the facility.
Additional responsibilities may include groundskeeping, waste handling, basic maintenance support, snow removal, and assistance with plant improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Cleaning and Organization
- Clean production areas, offices, storage spaces, and other shop areas.
- Sweep floors and maintain clean working areas.
- Operate a small Zamboni-style floor sweeper.
- Keep shop areas organized and orderly.
- Maintain supplies of dunnage and ensure materials are safe and usable.
Material and Tool Delivery
- Prepare and deliver tools, consumables, and other materials to production operators.
- Keep employees supplied with the materials required for their work.
- Assist the Tool Crib Attendant when directed.
- Travel to local businesses when necessary to collect miscellaneous materials.
Waste and Recycling
- Operate a forklift to move and empty heavy dumpsters when qualified.
- Collect trash from grounds and surrounding areas.
- Place recyclable materials into the appropriate containers.
- Coordinate disposal activities as required.
- Monitor supplies and arrange for replacement supplies when necessary.
Restroom and Facility Maintenance
- Clean and disinfect restrooms throughout the facility.
- Keep restrooms properly supplied.
- Assist with general plant maintenance projects.
- Support refurbishment, repair, painting, and other facility-related projects when required.
Groundskeeping and Seasonal Duties
- Perform general groundskeeping tasks.
- Pick up trash around the facility.
- Assist with snow removal around entrances and pedestrian walking areas when needed.
Safety and Workplace Responsibilities
Safety is an important part of this position. Employees are expected to follow applicable workplace safety procedures and handle chemicals and materials correctly.
Responsibilities include:
- Following Global Harmonized System (GHS) requirements.
- Following Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions.
